Dear Phil In America,

          This is Cameron from Turkey! This is a very sad week in my country, for Kemal Ataturk passed away. He was our president, who we call “The Father of the Turks”. He made our older country a modern one. He completely ended and took control of the Ottoman Empire in 1925 after the Ottomans took the losing side(Germany) in World War 1. The first thing he did to modernize the country was make a law forbiiding to wear fezzes in public(including mosques), the religous hats of muslim men. Kemal did this because the fez was a sign of the past. He also gave women the right to vote. One downfall was only one person could run for office!!! Believe it or not he was a dictator.
